Claim Your Domain Name and Register it

If you found the name you want for your site, either your company name or with the keyword you have chosen, you can take the next step.

You have to register your domain.
Mostly You can register directly at the Hosting provider you have chosen.

But first, you have to check if the domain isn't taken already.
The most simple way is to type the address into the Address bar in Your browser and see if a website comes up.
If it does, you have to choose another one, or, if you really want that domain, try to Buy it.

Buying an existing domain can be very expensive and can even harm your business.
Do You know what is hosted now?
Sometimes You find it is a website your company really doesn't want to be associated with. So be careful with this option.

It is mostly much better to check an alternative domain name.

What You really should check with your hosting provider, if they have a standard for automatically extending your domain name every year.
Maybe they even offer You to register for several years.

But make sure they register it on YOUR name, and not the hosting company's name.
This way it is much easier to keep or move your domain.
It's YOUR Domain name, not from the hosting company, so make sure you are not locked in.

Secure your own domain name

Multiple Domain names

If you cannot decide on a domain name from the one you have chosen, why not take both?

This doesn't mean you have to build two or more websites.
You can have one website with more than one domain name.
My advice, in this case, would be to limit it to 2 names to prevent penalties from search engines for spamming.

For example:

Domain https://www.example.com/ as your company name and want one with your keyword in it like http://www.keyword-example.com

Your hosting is then requested on https://www.example.com/ with the second one redirected by the hosting company to the first.

How To register a domain name

Go to your hosting provider and look for the option, domain registration.
Fill in the requested domain and choose your hosting package.

Wait for the email with your login details, and you're off.

It is really that simple!.

You can also work with a special domain registration company like NameCheap.com

Here are my suggestions for great hosting companies.
They both deliver great hosting services for affordable prices, which one You choose is up to you…just check their packages and then decide.

  • GreenGeeks.com
  • SiteGround.com

P.s. They can also help you if you want to move to a new hosting company with the transferal of your domain name, however, the move of the site itself is up to you.
But that's not so difficult.
